WildinSync: United for Biodiversity

WildinSync is a unique collaboration between ETH Zurich and WWF, connecting technological innovation with real-world biodiversity conservation. The initiative combines ETH Zurich’s pioneering work in decentralized environmental DNA (eDNA) technologies with WWF’s global conservation expertise.

WildinSync has tested and applied standardized eDNA-based biodiversity monitoring combined with remote sensing across more than 20 countries. A core pillar of WildinSync is capacity building. The initiative works by equipping local partners with field-ready eDNA tools, supporting the establishment or strengthening of laboratory infrastructure, and fostering regional hubs for biomolecular biodiversity monitoring. Through standardized protocols and interoperable workflows, WildinSync enables comparable, scalable biodiversity assessments across marine, coastal, and connected freshwater systems, while ensuring data sovereignty and long-term monitoring capacity.
